Obviously there are going to be some questions. So, here is your chance to ask them! There is no such thing as a silly question. If you're thinking it, someone else is too.

RULES AND FAQS HAVE MOVED HERE

Hi guys, quick query:

All times are in EDT.

EDT is a timezone in both Australia and America. Are we running on American time or Australian time? Thanks!

American, sorry for the confusion!

This is probably clear to everyone else but timezones tend to confuse me even when they're listed with a major city as an example.

You've said that all times are in EDT, which appears to be used in both North America (UTC-4) and Australia (UTC+11). As bids are required to be in USD I thought that meant it was on US time but when I went to check it out everywhere seems to list EDT as a summer time with EST being currently in use.

So do you mean the EDT that's currently in effect in Sydney, Australia, or the American EDT? If it's the American one could you please let me know the name of a major city that's in sync with the auctions timeline?

Thanks

Ooops. I meant EST. Boston, MA. We need to edit that.

The Government's set up its own appeal with no minimum donation but it only takes Visa or Mastercard.

Thank you for letting us know. That's great.

You guys may want to consider adding the NZ Government's Christchurch Earthquake Appeal to your approved donor list ♥

Do you need links to where people can donate? I've found (and used) three.

Worldwide NZ Government Christchurch Earthquake Appeal
SPCA Earthquake Appeal (Canterbury is the province Christchurch is in)
Red Cross

They're in our sidebar to the right permanently.

You might want to change the forms on the non-words auctions so that they don't ask how many fics ;)

lol *facepalm* In my defense I was drinking champagne when I posted that.

Just wanted to point out that on all the main auction pages, it says bidding begins Tuesday February 29, but there is no February 29th this year, so it should actually be Tuesday, March 1

There may have been wine when I was proofing these. *fixes*

The St John ambulance is taking donations for Chch with a minimum .49GBP.

Yeah, I'm kind of mystified about their currency of choice.

Whoa. That's very strange they went with pounds.

Hey may I just mention a quick concern. I was in the last Help Pakistan auction, and I ran into a particularly unexpected problem - three of the people who won and paid with lightning speed never got back to me on how to send the items to them even though I tried multiple times to contact the people as well as community admin.

Are there anyways to avoid that from happening? Still feel a bit like a scambag from it.:\

That happened to me in h_p too. I send three pm's. She never got back to me. I don't think there is anything that can be done about it.

Hello! I just posted an offer here and seem to be running into the same screened comment issue as a few other people upthread.

I wonder if it was because I posted the comment before joining the comm? In any case, I tried to unscreen it myself, but that seems to be a mod-only privilege. Curiouser and curiouser!

I unscreened. Apparently this is an LJ glitch. Someone googles and told me many communities seems to have this problem.

Domestic violence has risen as a result of the stress here and Women's Refuge are under increasing resource strain. Could they be added to the list of charities?

(I'm in Chch and I promise they're not a scam. :) )

I'm sorry. I've been asked this before and I decided that they could not be added because they are not reviewed by a site like charity navigator. I believe they are not a scam and I will personally make a donation to them, but I don't feel I can add them because they don't meet the basic requirements we set up for including charities. I grew up in an abusive home so it kills me to have to say no. :(

I will mention them in our news post.

late comment is late, and most likely a dumb one.

is there going to be a second main auction? i may have forgotten to comment for the main one.

Re: late comment is late, and most likely a dumb one.

The main auction just started last night and runs for a week. You haven't missed it at all.

I made an offer but it's still screened -- I feel a bit better about not getting any bids! but can you unscreen please?
http://community.livejournal.com/help_nz/1054.html?thread=266782#t266782

actually, is there any reason I can't duplicate this offer on the Main Auction post? (I'm going to do that right now as won't have interweb for most of the day and the Main Auction post will get more notice, I think: please delete the post linked above if I shouldn't have two separate offers.)

I also got screened - the thread is here.

Thanks for running this, and taking care of all these annoying things.

I unscreened your comment. We finally figured out what causes that! So there shouldn't be anymore of them.
